If the nose becomes inflamed due to allergies, chronic irritants, or infection, it can cause blockage of mucus flow. Many Americans develop chronic inflammation of their sinuses, called sinusitis or rhinosinusitis each year, making chronic sinus problems the most common health complaints. Above, below, between, and behind the eyes are the main areas that can become inflamed with pressure due to mucus and fluid buildup

For prolonged treatment for sinus disorders, we can recommend topical steroids like prescription nasal sprays, which reduce the inflammation in the nasal cavities next to the sinuses. Nasal steroid sprays or oral steroids may also help shrink nasal polyps that can accompany chronic sinus disorders. Decongestant nose sprays may also help in treating sinus problems, but should not be used for more than a few days at a time.
